Basque independence plan rejected


 

 

On Thursday, December 30th, 2004 in a historic vote, the Basque Parliament approved the so-called "Ibarretxe Plan", which seeks to achieve the following:

 

  1. The recognition of Basque Identity and the right to self-determination.

  2. Freedom to form relations with Autonomous Community of Navarre and with Iparralde (French-Basque Country).

  3. Autonomous Judiciary, which with together with the Basque Parliament and the Basque Government would complete self-government of the Basque Country.

  4. A voice in the European Union and in the world.
